A Summer Photo Shoot. Before a Change in Season.

This photo shoot is a culmination of my time on Martha’s Vineyard. My talented friend and fashionable partner in crime, Kristina, came to visit for the last 5 days of my stay. Amidst our 5:30 am wake-up calls, 8 hour shifts at work, and late night excursions including a bonfire on the beach, we managed to wake up early one morning and walk 1 ½ miles to Lucy Vincent Beach for a little creative expression.

One Smokin’ Hott Photographer…
All summer I had a vision of a model wearing a flowing white gown on the beach. She represents a woman blending in flawlessly with the pulse of nature—the rolling of the waves, breath of the breeze, and easy motion of sea grass and stirred sand. The white gown became a simple design, as I created a cape with wrist attachments and tapered train. Its construction was inspired by:

The ensemble was completed with a neckpiece I made from the Vineyard’s sea grass.  It’s construction was inspired by:
Gift from El—a beautiful necklace made from a piece of grass, a flower, and tape
The Lion, The Witch, & the Wardrobe—one of my cousins favorite movies that we watched together
Martha’s Vineyard.

Here are a few images taken from Kristina Krug’s website that feature our photo shoot on Lucy Vincent Beach in Martha’s Vineyard, MA:

Our photo shoot was a blast! A quiet beach on a peaceful morning with a great friend made a wonderful memory that I will treasure forever.

Fashionably Formed on a Budget

We both have a love for travel. We share a passion for fashion. We are “nerds” (as one NY acquaintance pointed out…the same guy who used the pick-up line “are you two models for fashion week?”…ok besides the point...). We love to shop and enhance a unique style; and we do this with the same approach.

High style shouldn’t have to come with a hefty price tag.  As previous posts have noted, an expensive look doesn’t have to break the bank.  Where did Kristina and I find our wardrobe for the Zang Toi fashion show?  Goodwill, Filene’s Basement, & Marshalls.  Shhh…It'll be our little secret...

Take our crazy word for it.  It’s easy to find style on a budget.  Shop on!

In New York

High rise buildings pierce the sky. People flood the sidewalks. Yellow taxis scream through the streets in a dialogue of honking. The subway rumbles beneath the ground. Billboards and signs plead for attention. The atmosphere can be harried, tense, overwhelming.

New York City-also known as "The Big Apple" or "The City that Never Sleeps".

It is the hub of opportunity, energy, and excitement.

Highlights of my 8 day stay:
Friendship--having an increduble adventure with "Tina" ;)

Fashion Week—high style fashions outside of the tents, Zang Toi fashion show attendance

Fashion Night Out—shopping, designers, celebrities, models, complimentary drinks

Private Parties—Music, Dancing, Art

Central Park—Run, Evening picnic

Museums—rich culture, color, history

Nightlife—casual pubs, swanky rooftop venues, martini bars

Subway— mode of transportation, friends made, break dancing performances

Shopping—miles of walking, talking, and trying on.

Cafes—destination for tea, coffee, and pastries--providing an opportunity to people watch

Exploring—Subway riding and walking to all areas of NYC

New York City was an adventure. It gave me a taste of a different lifestyle. Beauty lies in the diversity of culture and style, while excitement sparks on every street corner. There is never a dull moment—hardly the chance to stop and rest.

“I find myself rushing about even when I’m not in a hurry.”
“You have to put on a tough skin in this city.”
“Everyone is trying to rise to the top."
“Tell yourself everyday that you are fabulous. Don’t let other people beat you down."
These statements made by New Yorkers caused me to question a life in NYC. Yes, the city is alive with people and opportunity, but does it allow a person to truly live? It is a very individual-focused city. Walking down the street is a maze—a journey from point A to point B. The focus is forward and concentrated on the destination. I found my own pace accelerate and my mind on edge, unable to absorb and appreciate the moment.

What a dichotomy this experience was in comparison to a summer on Martha’s Vineyard! I realize the two extremes and feel blessed for the opportunity to understand both lifestyles. I do yearn for adventure—for the ability to experience new things, as I increase my character in understanding and acceptance. Will I be back to New York City? Yes!, but for now, I go home.

A knot of uncertainty untangled its grasp, as I booked my flight back to Seattle. I look forward to the embrace of family and friends. Let the next journey unfold.

Boston: City of Red, White, & Blue

Red, White, & Blue—the colors of our country are bold in Boston.

Red brick buildings bring forth the brilliant blue out of the backdrop of the bright sky.

White clouds moved gracefully through the air, adding depth and continued contrast to a perfect picture day in the historically rich city.

One of my favorite destinations within Kristina’s and my two-day trip was the Old State House Museum. In the words of the Bostonian Society, “History happened here”.  It is the home of 18th century political debate between Samuel Adams, James Otis, John Hancock, and John Adams, site of the Boston Massacre, and venue of 1776 proclamation of the Declaration of Independence.

Artifacts remain for public viewing and education. John Hancock’s outfit for his inauguration as governor is rich and bright. Red velvet, blue silk, and white cotton create a statement of respect and power.

Outside of the museums I was struck by the distinct style of the city. Preppy and proper are two words that come to mind.

“I love his outfit”, I said to Kristina, as I pointed to a business man walking down the street.  “A shirt and tie?,” she replied.  “Yes," I said realizing the humor in my comment.  Yet, there was something eye-catching about the man’s attire.   I found something very fresh about the crisp khakis, baby blue button-up, and shiny leather shoe combination.

Style.com notes the fall trend of masculine-inspired attire. “Man Up” reflects a variety of designers’ inspiration that stems from menswear. Tailored jackets, fitted trousers, and simple lines are highlighted fashions for this fall of 2010.

Note the simplistic beauty in this Givenchy ensemble.
